What are Sintered, Semi Metallic and Organic Brake Pads

At GSXR Parts we carry brake pads to meet the demands of every riding style. For the last few years, motorcycle brake pads have fallen into three groups: Organic, Semi Metallic and Sintered. Each group is designed to meet certain rider demands. Without going into a lot of detail, Semi Metallic Brake Pads are blended with up to 30% to 50% cheap steel fiber. Organic Brake Pads are made with man made fibers such as Kevlar or Twaron bonded together with a petrochemical resin. Sintered Metal Brake Pads are copper alloy fused together under heat and pressure.

Nearly all modern motorcycles are equipped from the factory with Sintered Brake Pads. Sintered Brake Pads work well at high temperature and offer excellent braking but they are not as progressive when applied like the Semi-Metallic or Organic brake pads. However, Organic Brake Pads are becoming increasingly popular due to their "softer" wear on rotors, and they have a braking feel that many riders feel is superior to the "on / off" feel of Sintered Brake Pads. Semi Metallic Brake Pads reside somewhere between the hard braking Sintered Brake Pads and the "softer" Organic Brake Pads.
